Cornwall has been the location for films and TV over many years from the 1970s with the original TV adaptation of Winston Garham’s Poldark, to Wycliffe  and more recently  Doc Martin, 2015 Poldark new adaptation , Rosamund Pilcher and most recently the location for the prequel to Games of Thrones – The House of Dragons

Filmed in 2010, Tim Burton adaptation was shot at Athony’s House and Charlestown.

The series is set in Cornwall England, where celebrity chef Leo is married to the beautiful Sam and has a successful hotel business. However, he is having an affair with his first wife Gina, a talented cook from whom he stole many of his recipes and cheated on for years. 

Staring the famous comedian and author Dawn French, who is also the Chancellor of Falmouth University.

When Martin Ellingham, a surgeon, develops haemophobia, he leaves London to start a practice in the sleepy village of Portwenn. However, his lack of social skills makes him unpopular among the people.

Doc Martin’s fictional town of Portwenn is actually Port Issac in Cornwall. The Tv Series is filmed across many locations in Cornwall.

Friends

A cynical London music executive hears a singing group of ten Cornish fisherman while on a stag weekend and believes that they can achieve a top ten hit. The difficult part is convincing them he’s right and getting them to sign up.

Released in 2019 based on a true story about a group of Cornish Fisherman from Port Issac who were signed by Universal Records. Due to the success of the first film, they are currently filming the 2nd film due for release in 2022.

The story of the Targaryen civil war that took place about 300 years before events portrayed in “Game of Thrones.”

Set to release in 2022, the prequel to Game of Thrones has been filmed in various locations around West and North Cornwall.

Tim Burtons time travelling fantasy, although in this, Cornwall became Wales with a whole village built at Port Holland on the Roseland.

Poldark

Since the first publication of Winston Graham’s Poldark novels the stories and characters have become synonymous with the drama and romanticism of the coast of Cornwall, it’s mining heritage, great fortunes and struggles against a backdrop of diverse sea states and the hardships of living in remote, rural Georgian Britain.

Rick is on the beautiful Roseland Peninsula. He begins his journey at a spot thought to have been visited by Jesus, which inspired the hymn Jerusalem. At the picturesque town of St Mawes, he embarks on a tour of the bay with Alex and Olga Polizzi.

Rosamunde

Pilcher

A series of television movies based on the works of Rosamunde Pilcher, a popular British writer of romance novels and short stories. She was born in Cornwall in Lelant in 1924 and hr breakthrough was her family saga book called The Shell Seekers which was adapted to a film.

Her books are now popular in Germany because the television station ZDF have produced over 100 of her stories for TV.

Du Maurier

One of this country’s well-known authors who took her inspiration from Cornwall, Daphne Du Maurier lived in and around Fowey. 

Most recent productions include Rebecca (2020) and My Cousin Rachel (2017).
