June

Events

June sees the arrival of one of the biggest events in Cornwall’s annual diary – the Royal Cornwall Show – but it’s by no means the only thing happening at the start of the summer! Learn some sea shanties, enjoy regattas aplenty and find yet more mouth watering food festivals to tempt you this month.

Royal

Cornwall Show

For three days each year the dedicated showground at Wadebridge is transformed into a living town, bustling with life, energy, agriculture, entertainment and trade. It is a significant event on the Cornish calendar with around 130,000 people attending.

The Great

Estate

The most rambunctious Garden Féte! Expect major international headline acts, plus a mix of comedy, theatre, music and the arts, all set in the beautiful grounds of Scorrier Estate over the late May Bank Holiday weekend.

Murdoch

Day

Each year Redruth celebrates its most famous citizen, inventor William Murdoch (1754 – 1839) when the town is packed with events and entertainment throughout the day for the whole family. Murdoch, although not born in Cornwall, is revered locally as a mechanical genius who improved the efficiency of steam engines in Cornwall’s tin mines. He was also a pioneer of gas lighting and famed for building Britain’s first working model of a steam carriage which he demonstrated in and around Redruth in 1784.

Golowan

The festival brings the past and present together in a community celebration of the traditional midsummer Feast of St John. The festival has a packed programme of artists in celebration of music, performing arts and theatre. Events include a fireworks display on the prom, Mazey Day, spectacular parades through the streets and a host of street entertainment.

Classic boats, designed or built before 1971, from many parts of the country, take part in this Classics event, with boats built as long ago as 1882 and lovingly restored taking their place alongside many more launched before the Second World War and other more modern versions of the classic designs.

Thought to be one of the longest surviving Cornish festivals, the weeklong event features exhibitions, demonstrations, live music and lots of fish dishes to eat. Along with choirs and bands, flora dances, children’s entertainment and competitions, plus colourful parades, boat and raft races, a fete and a huge firework display.
